Why NoosphereNow? Aside from being a funny looking word which made us laugh, we found that the noosphere is what we are becoming a part of. Noosphere, which I like to pronounce "new-sphere" with an ever-so-slightly german accent on the "noo", is attributed to Vladimir Vernadsky a turn of the century soviet minerologist and geochemist. Vernadsky describes the noosphere as third in a succession of phases of development of the earth, after the geosphere and biosphere. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin describes it as a sort of "collective consciousness" of human beings.
The sphere of human thought, which currently takes place via the technology we are using to circulate this blog, is what these guys were describing before there was even an inkling of an internet. Interesting, to say the least, especially when further considering they were talking about the evolution of human communication.
Maybe in the not so distant future, as we humans evolve in leaps and bounds, the noosphere will take place via direct mind to mind communication. You gotta admit, that would be cool.
